ORAL AND MAXILLOFACIAL SURGERY

Upcoming Events

PRP, Marrow Harvesting, Nerve Repair/Grafting

Implant Seminars’ Training Facility

Phoenix, Arizona

The first two morning lectures will demonstrate the new safest and most straightforward techniques to harvest marrow derived osteoprogenitor cells and mesenchymal stem cells as well as to apply them to regenerate viable bone for ridge augmentation and grating defects of the jaws. The remaining two morning lectures will discuss the physiology as well as the medico-legal implications of nerve injury, nerve repair, assessment of sensory changes, and nerve grafting. The specific techniques and outcomes of nerve repair using conduits and allogeneic nerve grafting will show their superiority over autogenous nerve grafting while sparing the patient the lost sensation at the donor site.

The afternoon workshops will review in detail the stepwise harvest of marrow derived osteoprogenitor cells and mesenchymal stem cells using dry specimen models. Participants will be able to practice the preparation and techniques of marrow harvesting.

Additionally, the workshop will include demonstrations and participant practice of nerve repair using conduits and nerve grafting using allogeneic nerves and conduits.

A SELF-ASSESSMENT EDUCATIONAL TOOL

Oral and Maxillofacial Pathology and Its Treatment

Robert E. Marx, DDS, and Diane Stern, DDS

Case-based learning is an effective and stimulating method to increase your knowledge base and prepare for examinations. This volume, “Oral and Maxillofacial Pathology and Its Treatment,” features 100 questions derived from actual cases that will test and improve your knowledge in oral and maxillofacial pathology and its treatment. The questions in this series cover topics that span the entire spectrum of oral and maxillofacial pathology, including oral cancer, odontogenic cysts and tumors, fibro-osseous diseases, salivary gland pathologies, and much more. Each item in the test is formatted as a brief description, often accompanied by a clinical photograph, radiograph, computed tomography scan, and/or laboratory value, followed by a succinct question. In most cases, the question is followed by four multiple-choice answers, of which only one is correct. A unique feature of the program is that it not only gives the correct answer, but each answer concludes with a comprehensive discussion of why it is correct and why the other options can be ruled out. Both the answers and these explanations are located in a separate file so that the test can be used both as an actual examination and as an educational tool. Also included are several “matching” questions that challenge the reader to coordinate and compare clinical, radiographic, and histopathology findings.

This test is designed for practitioners and students who wish to increase their knowledge, improve their clinical practice, and/or prepare for board examinations.
