CASE-BASED TESTING IN ORAL AND MAXILLOFACIAL SURGERY VOLUME II
A SELF-ASSESSMENT EDUCATIONAL TOOL
Robert E. Marx, DDS
Case-based learning is an effective and stimulating method to increase your knowledge base and prepare for examinations. This volume, “Oral and Maxillofacial Reconstructive Surgery” features 100 questions derived from actual cases that will test and improve your knowledge in oral and maxillofacial hard and soft tissue reconstructive procedures.
The questions in this series cover topics that span the entire spectrum of oral and maxillofacial reconstructive surgery including, continuity defect grafts, rigid fixation, soft tissue flaps, pre prosthetic procedures, graft harvesting, complications, and much more. Each item in the test is formatted as a brief description, often accompanied by a clinical photograph, radiograph, computed tomography scan, and/or laboratory value, followed by a succinct question. In most cases, the question is followed by four multiple-choice answers, of which only one is correct. A unique feature of the program is that it not only gives the correct answer, but each answer concludes with a comprehensive discussion of why it is correct and why the other options can be ruled out. Both the answers and these explanations are located in a separate file so that the test can be used both as an actual examination and an educational tool. Also included are several “matching” questions that challenge the reader to coordinate and compare clinical, radiographic, and histopathologic findings.
This test is designed for practitioners and students who wish to increase their knowledge, improve their clinical practice, and/or prepare for board examinations.
